Proud of their progress, Verizon Wireless has been enthusiastically planning rollouts and ad campaigns for its 4G LTE devices. One of Verizon’s phones has certainly taken a leading role in the 4G LTE cellphone race while another, soon to be released, is bound to be an even bigger hit with consumers especially Android lovers. The two Android 0/S powered phones are of course the HTC Thunderbolt and Motorola Droid Bionic, respectively.
The HTC Thunderbolt has been popular with those on Verizon’s network and users have been taking advantage of beneficial promotions such as free tethering. Verizon has however been teasing customers with ever changing release dates of the Droid Bionic. Although it was supposed to hit shelves back in the springtime, Motorola’s claims about necessary updates and fixes have pushed the final release date to the end of summer or beginning of fall. Hopefully Verizon takes advantage of the open market pre, iPhone 5 launch.
While both the Thunderbolt and Bionic offer eye opening features like huge screens and crisp display, they do differ in some ways. The Droid Bionic comes with a 4.5 inch screen (.2 inches larger than the Thunderbolt’s) and its resolution is 540 x 950 pixels as opposed to the Thunderbolt’s 480 x 800 pixels. The newer device is capable of storing double the data onboard without an extension and has upgraded flash support running thanks to Adobe Flash 10.2. While both functioning with huge batteries to support fantastic features, the Bionic has been majorly anticipated because unlike the Thunderbolt, it runs on a dual-core 1 GHz processor. These aspects combined with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system have many believing that the phone will outperform all others currently on the market.
Some Verizon users however may still stick to the HTC Thunderbolt because it is smaller, lighter, or simply because it is a reliable device. In time, some may just upgrade to the Bionic because of that crisp front camera or 1080p HD video capture. Consumers will have a heavy hand in controlling Verizon’s role in 4G LTE products this year and will decide upon the worth and utility of the new devices offered by their network. So while this may be an interpersonal battle between HTC and Motorola, a larger affect will be felt by Verizon Wireless and its competitors.
