Create a Hotspot with Your iPhone?

Maybe you really don’t like to carry a lot of stuff around and can’t bear to deal with too much with it comes to technology. This doesn’t mean you should lose to ability to connect. For those of us who need internet connectivity on devices such as laptops and tablets, a simple solution comes with owning an iPhone.

MiFi and WiFi routers can sometimes be frustrating for those who wish a middleman weren’t necessary. Lugging around a laptop and carrying a phone honestly seem to be as much as most can handle so why shouldn’t a way to connect exist between them.

AT&T’s WiFi hotspot tethering feature allows customers to use their iPhone’s 3G networks as an Internet source for other enabled devices. The tethering and data charge ($45) allows users to truly turn their phones into personal hotspots without the help of any other device. Once users turn the hotspot on, it can easily be accessed from say, a laptop by searching for the network and then entering a password.

For those who have data plans for MiFi devices, this may help cut the overall cost of connecting when things are added up. It all however depends on how much data one uses. The 4GB/tethering plan offered by AT&T is probably not the best for those who know they will max that limit since overage charges will no doubt be applied. For other users who know that 4GB is just the right amount, this plan might work out and end up costing less on a monthly basis.
